ABOUT US

DW Excavating was founded in 2005 by Derrek Wilson, starting with small residential excavation projects and a focus on doing solid work the right way. From the beginning, the company built a reputation for reliability, hard work, and straight dealing.

In 2008, DW Excavating was incorporated in the State of Michigan. As the economy shifted in 2010, operations moved to Watford City, North Dakota, where the company expanded into development work and emergency repair projects supporting critical infrastructure.

By 2014, DW Excavating entered the public works and general contracting market, marking a major step in the company’s growth. In 2015, the business began transitioning operations to Davenport, Washington, and by 2017 DW Excavating was fully established in Washington State, closing its North Dakota branch.

Today, DW Excavating is a trusted civil construction contractor serving the Inland Northwest. In 2025, Derrek Wilson sold the company to Lars Hendrickson, who had been with DW Excavating since 2016 and played a key role in its operations and growth.

With a team of approximately 45 employees, DW Excavating performs work on:

  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Sewer collection systems

  • Water distribution systems

  • Excavation and grading projects

  • Civil infrastructure and utility construction

DW Excavating continues to focus on safe, high-quality work while building long-term relationships with owners, engineers, vendors, and the communities we work in.

OUR CORE VALUES

At DW Excavating, our success is built on a strong team culture and a commitment to doing things the right way. These core values guide how we work with our clients, our vendors, and each other every day.

Have Fun, Work Hard

We take the work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We work hard, back each other up, and try to enjoy the long days we put in.

No Games Either Way

We don’t play games with our customers, our partners, or our crews. We’re straight with people and expect the same in return. Say what you mean and do what you say.

Take the Initiative

If you see something that needs to be done, do it. Think ahead, speak up, and take ownership instead of waiting to be told.

No Excuses… Own It

Stuff happens. When it does, we own it and fix it. We don’t pass the blame and we don’t make excuses—that’s how trust gets built.
